Our Rovering Teen Reporter, Willow Riston, continues her adventures on North America's Land Rover club event circuit with this year's Maine Winter Romp. Romp has become one of the most iconic events in our community, with over a hundred Land Rovers taking over the Central Maine town of Waterville over President's Day every year since 1996. Willow has been a long-time attendee with her father, Atlantic British's Senior Retail Sales Representative and Land Rover Club Liaison, Eric Riston.
Though the Land Rover community at large convenes at some great rallies across the continent every year, there are also smaller, friends and family-style gatherings happening all the time. These smaller events let people pass down skills, build on friendships, and develop traditions on a smaller, more manageable, level. Many are held on private land, at the invitation of the landowner. Willow Riston, daughter of Atlantic British's Senior Retail Sales Representative and Land Rover Club Liaison Eric Riston, went to one of these local events a few weeks ago in Upstate New York, to celebrate Guy Fawkes Day with landowner Howard, a British expat.
Willow Riston, an intrepid young Land Rover adventurer (and daughter of our Senior Retail Sales Representative, Eric Riston), returns to Roverlog with her recap of one of her favorite Land Rover events: the annual Maine Winter Romp, accompanied by her photography from the event.
Once again, we've asked Willow Riston to give her perspective on a Land Rover club event. Willow is a twelve-year-old Land Rover enthusiast, who grew up around Rovers with her father, Eric Riston, Atlantic British's Senior Retail Sales Representative and Land Rover Club Liaison.
Presidents' Day Weekend brought the annual
Maine Winter Romp, with over a hundred Land Rovers descending on Benton, Maine to wheel on the Sebasticook Millennium Green. This event, running constantly since the mid-1990s, is managed by long-time Land Rover enthusiast Bruce Fowler, who has -- with the help of a devoted group of volunteers -- turned "Romp" from a small gathering to one of North America's largest Land Rover events. This year, we're sharing the event from the perspective of Willow Riston, a 12-year-old off-road enthusiast who has been wheeling with her father, Atlantic British's Senior Retail Sales Representative Eric Riston, since she was ten months old.
